Choosing Your Membership

One of the first choices a new member makes is selecting a membership type. This section puts the difference front and center.

Recommended

A-Membership

The full membership category of the IBEW. It includes everything BA-Membership offers, plus access to the Pension Benefit Fund and life-insurance protection.

  • Lifetime pension benefit
  • Life-insurance coverage
  • Long-term financial value
  • Full participation in benefit-related union matters
Basic Option

BA-Membership

BA-Membership is a basic membership category, but it does not include the pension and life-insurance benefits that come with A-Membership.

  • Basic union membership
  • No Pension Benefit Fund
  • No IBEW life insurance
  • Less long-term value

Why Most Members Choose A-Membership

The strongest argument is simple: small added cost now, meaningful protection later.

??

Lifetime Pension

A-members earn a monthly pension through the IBEW Pension Benefit Fund. Once eligibility is met, payments continue for life.

??

Life Insurance Protection

A-members receive death-benefit coverage, including natural-death and accidental-death benefits, with reduced post-retirement coverage.

??

Long-Term Value

For many members, the pension benefit eventually outweighs what they paid in and keeps paying for life.
